Prevention First
Role: Lead Designer (Contractor) | Timeline: 2021 – 2023 (6 campaigns over 3 years) | Tools: Adobe Creative Suite
Prevention First is a nonprofit public health organization that supports statewide prevention education. For each campaign, they required full sets of custom-designed marketing and educational materials to distribute across schools, youth organizations, and community groups throughout Illinois. These campaigns aimed to spark conversation and promote behavior change around topics such as underage drinking and marijuana use. Each campaign needed to be designed in both English and Spanish, with visual systems that were age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and aligned with prevention goals.

Role contributions
As the sole designer contracted by Prevention First, I was responsible for concepting, designing, and delivering complete sets of campaign materials for six unique prevention campaigns. This included creating designs in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility and cultural relevance across all audiences.
Process highlights
-
Collaborative kickoff + theme alignment: For each campaign, I worked closely with Prevention First to review their campaign criteria and brainstorm 2–3 initial creative concepts aligned with the selected theme (e.g., “Not Missing the Moment,” “Let’s Talk Cannabis”).
-
Bilingual, culturally inclusive design: Every design had to work equally well in English and Spanish, often requiring layout tweaks or adjustments to fit translated copy without compromising the visual balance.
-
Full production lifecycle: I managed all phases of design – from initial mockups through multiple rounds of revision – until final approval. All materials were packaged according to detailed naming and export specs, including bleeds, crop marks, and version control.
-
Scalable, systematized outputs: For each campaign, I created a cohesive visual system that scaled across 80+ assets, including posters, newsletters, banners, digital wallpapers, social media graphics, and sticker/magnet graphics.

Solution highlights
-
Designed over 500 total deliverables across six bilingual campaigns, each with distinct visual identities.
-
Developed print and digital assets at various sizes, formats, and resolutions – ensuring accessibility and fidelity across all use cases.
-
Delivered fully packaged files, including print-ready PDFs, layered design files, and web-optimized graphics, organized according to Prevention First’s asset library structure.
-
Created designs tailored for diverse audiences, with photography and illustration choices reflecting a wide range of demographics and lived experiences.
Impact
The campaigns were distributed across schools and community health programs statewide, supporting young people, parents, and educators in addressing critical public health topics. My work helped ensure that materials were not only visually engaging but also accessible, culturally responsive, and aligned with public health best practices. Prevention First continues to use these templates and visuals as foundational assets in their statewide outreach efforts.
